In-Depth Handicapping Analysis

Mike Battaglia's Analysis

8th Race - Beaumont (G2)
FRANNY FREUD (#3) has been ultra consistent, finishing first or second in 6 of her 7 races. She has been training sharply for her first start since January, when she just missed in the Grade 2 Santa Ynez. She looks like a solid bet today in the Beaumont. DIVA DELITE (#2) is riding a 5-race win streak. She is a versatile runner with wins at several different distances and if she handles the move to the Polytrack she will be the one to beat. CHANTILLY NAYA (#6) is also good right now and her best would make her capable of winning. Read more of Mike's analysis of Wednesday's card.

Jeremy Plonk's Keeneland Keys for April 7

What to Watch for Today: It's Beaumont Stakes Day as well as post position draw day for Saturday's G1 Blue Grass Stakes. But before we look ahead, we start our Wednesday analysis with a quick look back at last week's trends. Keeneland offered 20 races opening weekend and, as predicted here, Gulfstream Park raiders led the charge, winning half (10). Fair Grounds shippers won 4 races, with 2 surprisingly on the turf, where they've struggled historically. Turfway imports won just twice from 20 races. Continue reading Jeremy's analysis for Wednesday.

Today's Tune Old Crow Medicine Show - "Wagon Wheel (Live)"

Headed down south to the land of the pines
And I'm thumbin' my way into North Caroline
Starin' up the road
And pray to God I see headlights

I made it down the coast in seventeen hours
Pickin' me a bouquet of dogwood flowers
And I'm a hopin' for Raleigh
I can see my baby tonight

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Runnin' from the cold up in New England
I was born to be a fiddler in an old-time stringband
My baby plays the guitar
I pick a banjo now

Oh, the North country winters keep a gettin' me now
Lost my money playin' poker so I had to up and leave
But I ain't a turnin' back
To livin' that old life no more

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Walkin' to the south out of Roanoke
I caught a trucker out of Philly
Had a nice long toke
But he's a headed west from the Cumberland Gap
To Johnson City, Tennessee

And I gotta get a move on fit for the sun
I hear my baby callin' my name
And I know that she's the only one
And if I die in Raleigh
At least I will die free

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Todays Tune: Treetop Flyer - Stephen Stills (Live)

I could be a rambler from the seven dials
I don't pay taxes 'cause I never file
I don't do business that don't make me smile
I love my aeroplane 'cause she's got style
I'm a treetop flyer

I'll fly any cargo, that you can pay to run the bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
Got to fly down into the canyon, ya' don't ever see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run
For a treetop flyer

I'm flyin' low, I'm in high demand
Go fifteen feet over the Rio Grande
I'll blow the mesquite right up of off the sand
Seldom seen, especially when I land
I'm a treetop flyer
Born Survivor

People been asking me, "Where'd you learn to fly that way?"
Ot was over in Vietnam, chasin' NVA
The government taught me, and they taught me right,
Stay down, under the treeline, you might be alright
Treetop flyer

So I'm comin' home, I'm runnin' low and fast
I promised my woman this is gonna be my last
I get the ship down, I tie her fast
then some old boy walks up, and he says "Hey son" wanna' make some fast cash?
I'm a treetop flyer

Well there's things I am, and there's things I'm not
I am a smuggler and I could get shot
I aint going to die, I ain't goin' to get caught,
See I'm a flyin' fool, in an aeroplane that's just too hot
I'm a treetop flyer
Born survivor

I usually work alone

Kentucky Speedway Preferred Line - March 12, 2010

The engines of NASCAR's three major series have exited stage left and are leaving the IZOD IndyCar Series season-opener in Sao Paulo, Brazil in the center stage spotlight this week.

Read on for a preview of the IZOD IndyCar Series Brazil race, our Drive Smart! Tip of the Week and to learn more about our upcoming Drive the Track Sale and poll question!

DRIVE SMART TIP O' THE WEEK: DON'T PRESS YOUR LUCK ON ST. PATRICK'S DAY
For many Americans, St. Patrick's Day has become a popular night out to celebrate with friends and family. Unfortunately, the celebration often leads to drunken driving and needless tragedy. In 2008, there were 134 crash fatalities on St. Patrick's Day. Thirty-seven percent of those crashes involved an impaired driver and/or motorcyclist with a BAC of .08 and higher. Driving impaired is simply not worth the risk. Not only do you risk killing yourself and others, but the trauma and financial costs of a crash or an arrest for driving while impaired can be significant. KURT BUSCH PLUCKS HIS FIRST NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES VICTORY OF 2010 IN ATLANTA
Penske Racing driver and 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Kurt Busch earned his first victory of the 2010 season and the 21st of his career in his 332nd start since 2000 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 7. The 11-season veteran survived two attempts at a green-white-checkered flag finish before he rolled his No. 2 Penske Racing car across the finish line 0.482 of a second ahead of Roush Fenway competitor Matt Kenseth. Earnhardt Ganassi Racing driver Juan Pablo Montoya placed third while Richard Petty Motorsports drivers Kasey Kahne and Paul Menard took fourth and fifth respectively. Series championship leader Kevin Harvick tallied his fourth top-10 finish of the season with a ninth-place showing in Atlanta and retained the top spot in the standings heading to the series March 21 event at Bristol Motor Speedway. The Atlanta victory represented Busch's first top-five and second top-10 finish of the season. The effort helped him advance nine positions in the series standings to 10th. He trails Harvick by 142 points. Kenseth moved from fourth to second in the series standings after snaring his second top-five and fourth top-10 finish of the season. He has earned top-five finishes in two straight events and trails Harvick by 26 points. Montoya advanced five spots in the series standings to 21st at Atlanta with his first top-five and second top-10 finish of the season. His previous season-best finish was 10th in the Daytona 500. He finished 37th in events held at Auto Club Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He trails Harvick by 226 points. Kahne picked up six positions in the series standings after taking his first top-five and second top-10 finish of the season in the Peach State. He has taken top-10 race finishes in two straight events after finishing ninth at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He trails Harvick by 197 points. Menard earned the second top-five NASCAR Sprint Cup Series finish of his seven-year series career and first top-10 finish of the season in Atlanta. He took his series career-best second-place finish at Talladega Superspeedway on October 5, 2008. The Atlanta race saw 31 lead changes among 13 drivers and 11 caution periods that ate up 53 race laps. The most notable caution occurred on Lap 324 when Roush Fenway Racing's Carl Edwards No. 99 car intentionally clipped the rear of Brad Keselowski's No. 12 Penske Racing machine. The No. 12 became airborne before landing on the speedway surface. Neither driver was seriously injured in the incident. NASCAR officials placed Edwards on probation for three races as a result of the incident. Edwards finished 39th in the race and slipped from 10th to 20th in the series standings. Keselowski was credited with a 36th-place Atlanta finish and fell from 30th to 33rd in the standings. The series will take the week off before doing battle at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 21. Kyle Busch earned a March Bristol victory last season after Mark Martin started from the pole position. Race coverage begins at 1:00 p.m. (EST), on FOX. Performance Racing Network radio and Sirius XM Radio 128 coverage will begin at noon. Series standings: http://tinyurl.com/NSCS-Standings.

Billy Ballew Motorsports drivers Aric Almirola and Steve Wallace claimed third and fourth respectively while Germain Racing's Todd Bodine rounded out the race top five. Bodine moved from second to the lead in the series standings with his second top-five and top-10 finish of the season. The 2006 series champion, who has placed in the top four in the final series standings in each of the previous five seasons, opened the 2010 campaign with a second-place showing at Daytona International Speedway. Daytona winner and former championship leader Timothy Peters earned his second top-10 finish of the season with a seventh-place Atlanta finish. He slipped to second in the standings and will trail Bodine by four points entering the series March 27 event at Martinsville Speedway. Harvick started his first series event of the season. He ranks 20th in the series standings and trails Bodine by 120 points.
