Kentucky could see $167 million impact from games
Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 12:55PM A recent study says Kentucky's economic benefit from the World Equestrian Games later this year is likely to be higher than previously expected.
Game organizers say the study shows Kentucky will realize a $167 million economic boost from the games, which are being held for the first time in the United States at Lexington's Kentucky Horse Park.
Previous projections were at the $150 million level.
The games are scheduled for Sept. 25 to Oct. 10. As many as 60 countries will compete in eight equestrian sports for world champion titles.
Louisville economics professor Paul Coomes, who conducted the study, says the games will have a direct impact on state and local governments through payroll, hotel, restaurant, retail and car rental taxes.
Wildcats Take Down Wake Forest 90-60 in NCAA Round Two
Monday, March 22, 2010 at 1:38PM The stunning fall of overall No. 1 Kansas at the hands of Northern Iowa leaves the pundits looking at Kentucky as a possible favorite to win the NCAA Tournament. UK coach John Calipari considered the question of his Wildcats now being the team to beat, smiled and replied , "Who us?
"I don't know if we are the overwhelming favorite," said Calipari, "Everyone was picking us to lose today with this being a tough game. They were also saying we'd be the first No. 1 out. "So how do they change those talking heads overnight. With one game? Come on."
What Calipari won't admit right now is that his freshmen and sophomores are playing so much better together than anyone else and that is what will make the difference these next couple weeks. That much was obvious Saturday as the Wildcats with a spectacular display of ability dominated Wake Forest
"We're still a bunch of freshmen and sophomores," Calipari said. "This was our second NCAA tournament game. They've never played in any other games. The guys that we're playing have never played in it." While that is true, the Cat's looked more like pros than freshmen and by this time next year many of them will be in the NBA.
John Wall, UK's lightning quick point guard will probably be the No. 1 pick in June's NBA draft. Cousins, an athletic 6-foot-11, post won't be far behind. Then there is sharpshooter Eric Bledsoe, a star in his own right, who gets overlooked because of his two more famous freshmen classmates.
Kentucky may face it's toughest opponent in the next round as they take on, what I believe is one of the best teams in the Country, " The Big Red" of, Cornell. If the Cats get past Cornell as handily as as they did Wake Forest, I don't see anyone stopping them from winning the "National Championship".
The Feds are on Facebook. And MySpace, LinkedIn and Twitter, too.

Tune of the Day: Please Come To Boston -- Dave Loggins
Friday, March 12, 2010 at 10:40PM Please come to Boston for the spring time.
I'm stayin' here with some friends
And they've got lots of room.
You can sell your paintings on the sidewalk
By a cafe where I hope to be workin' soon.
Please come to Boston.
She said, "No.
You come home to me."
And she said, "Hey, ramblin' boy,
Why don't you settle down?
Boston ain't your kind of town.
There ain't no gold and
There ain't nobody like me.
I'm the number one fan
Of the man from Tennessee."
Please come to Denver with the snow fall.
We'll move up into the mountains so far
That we can't be found.
And throw "I love you" echoes down the canyon
And then lie awake at night until they come back around.
Please come to Denver.
She said, "No.
Boy, would you come home to me?"
And she said, "Hey, ramblin' boy,
Why don't you settle down?
Denver ain't your kind of town.
There ain't no gold and
There ain't nobody like me.
I'm the number one fan
Of the man from Tennessee."
Now, this drifter's world goes 'round and 'round
And I doubt it's ever gonna stop,
But of all the dreams I've lost or found
And all that I ain't got.
I still need to lean to
Somebody I can sing to.
Please come to L. A. and live forever.
California
life if just too hard to break.
I live in a house that looks out over the ocean.
And there's some stars that fell from the sky
Livin' up on the hill.
Please come to L. A.
She just said, "No.
Boy, won't you come home to me?"
And she said, "Hey, ramblin' boy,
Why don't you settle down?
L. A. can't be your kind of town.
There ain't no gold and
There ain't nobody like me.
No, no, I'm the number one fan
Of the man from Tennessee.
I'm the number one fan
Of the man from Tennessee."

IN THE MOOD
Wednesday, March 24, 3 p.m., 7:30 p.m.
The Brown Theatre on Broadway
Celebrate the life and times of America's Greatest Generation through the music of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Harry James, Erskine Hawkins, The Andrews Sisters, Frank Sinatra and other greats of the 1940s.
Featuring a touring company of 19 on stage - including the In The Mood Singers and Dancers, and the sensational String of Pearls Big Band Orchestra - the show's music arrangements, costumes and choreography are as authentic as it gets!
For the IN THE MOOD 2010 national tour, creator, music director and producer Bud Forrest revamped the show with eighteen of the most audience-requested songs (there are a total of 42 songs in the production). Among them are: Green Eyes, Laura, Moonglow, C Jam Blues, Blue Moon, I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm, Accentuate the Positive and quite a few other surprises!
Now "those who loved IN THE MOOD have another reason to come back" noted Maestro Forrest. As before, "the musical arrangements are as authentic as can be and ring out with the same kind of 1940's feel that IN THE MOOD has strived for during the sixteen years we have been touring."

UK avenges loss and Hammers South Carolina 82-61
Friday, February 26, 2010 at 3:41AM , Patterson responded with a season-high 23 points - many of them in the clutch - and Kentucky hammered South Carolina 82-61.
Patterson who had agonized for a month over the one blemish on No. 2 Kentucky's otherwise perfect season - a loss to South Carolina on a night when he had just five points.
"It was just pitiful on my part," he said. "No energy, no offensive presence, no defensive presence. I was extremely frustrated."
The Wildcats (27-1, 12-1) need just one more victory or a Vanderbilt loss to clinch at least a share of their 44th Southeastern Conference championship. Vanderbilt beat Georgia 96-94 in overtime Thursday, delaying the Kentucky celebration for at least another game.
Like its last meeting with Kentucky a month ago, South Carolina (14-13, 5-8) proved a pesky opponent at times. However, Kentucky had too much offensive firepower, going on a late 13-0 run that turned what was then a 10-point lead into a blowout.
Defensively, Kentucky gave up 26 points to the SEC's leading scorer, Devan Downey, but little else.
